Non-invasive Monitoring of Wound Healing Using Oct
ثبت نشده
چکیده
In this chapter we first describe the use of PSOCT imaging of tissues resected from Staphylococcus aureus infected and uninfected wounds, at different healing times, to assess the morphological changes and collagen remodeling at various stages of wound healing. Next we describe the use of a time domain real time (~ 8 frames/s) OCT set up for monitoring the healing of wounds non-invasively without sacrificing the animal. These measurements showed that compared to the uninfected wounds, the infected wounds had prominent edematic regions which leads to a significant delay in re-epithelization and collagen remodeling phases of wound healing. The OCT measurements were found to be consistent with the corresponding histological measurements demonstrating the potential of OCT for non-invasive monitoring of the progression of wound healing.

Wound healing using Semelil: A structured review with focus on diabetic foot ulcers
Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DFU) is a common complication of diabetes mellitus. Among the various non-invasive treatment modalities used for the improvement of DFUs healing, topical herbal therapies a regaining an increasing body of interest. Semelil has been introduced for diabetic foot ulcers management and has been formulated by Iranian scientists in recent years. In this report, the authors review...
متن کاملEnhancement of Wound Healing by Non-Thermal N2/Ar Micro-Plasma Exposure in Mice with Fractional-CO2-Laser-Induced Wounds
Micro-plasma is a possible alternative treatment for wound management. The effect of micro-plasma on wound healing depends on its composition and temperature. The authors previously developed a capillary-tube-based micro-plasma system that can generate micro-plasma with a high nitric oxide-containing species composition and mild working temperature. Here, the efficacy of micro-plasma treatment ...
متن کاملOptical Coherence Tomography for In Vitro Monitoring of Wound Healing After Laser Irradiation
We demonstrate a novel application of optical coherence tomography (OCT) to monitor post-laser irradiation collagen injury in model skin. An artificial skin model (RAFT), which closely approximates human skin, was irradiated with a Perovskite laser ( = 1341 nm), which is under investigation for potential use as a nonablative laser skin rejuvenation device (NALSR). OCT was used to determine the ...
متن کاملMonitoring wound healing in a 3D wound model by hyperspectral imaging and efficient clustering
Wound healing is a complex and dynamic process with different distinct and overlapping phases from homeostasis, inflammation and proliferation to remodelling. Monitoring the healing response of injured tissue is of high importance for basic research and clinical practice. In traditional application, biological markers characterize normal and abnormal wound healing. Understanding functional rela...
متن کاملOptical coherence tomography: a reliable alternative to invasive histological assessment of acute wound healing in human skin?
BACKGROUND Gold-standard assessment of acute wound healing has traditionally been through histological analysis of biopsied tissue. However, this process is invasive with recognized side-effects. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a noninvasive technique generating high-resolution real-time images of cutaneous architecture. OBJECTIVES To compare OCT with histological assessment of in vivo ...
